The Answer is One Word…..Breakfast!
Its meaning is to break your fast from your nights sleep, but do we actually take notice of this fact?
Breakfast is the most important meal, what you eat for breakfast sets up your entire neurotransmitter production for the day. According to Charles Poliquin eating an Organic Meat and Nut Breakfast is the best single dietary tip for optimal leanness, energy and sustained mental focus.
The meat allows for a slow and steady rise in blood sugar. The nuts provide a great source of healthy smart fats that allows the blood sugar to remain stable for an extended period of time.
Multiple studies on employee productivity or on children’s attention patterns have demonstrated that a high protein breakfast does not only impact on the energy and productivity levels of morning till noon , but extended its positive way in the late afternoon.
There was a recent study by the University of Alabama in Birmingham (USA) which was published online March 30th in the International Journal of Obesity. It examined the influence exerted by the type of foods and specific timing of intake on the development of metabolic syndrome characteristics in mice. The research revealed that mice fed a meal higher in fat after waking had normal metabolic profiles. In contrast, mice that ate a more carbohydrate-rich diet in the morning and consumed a high-fat meal at the end of the day saw increased weight gain, adiposity, glucose intolerance and other markers of the metabolic syndrome.
Basically it says that having a high protein and fat meal as your Breakfast led to more stability of your blood sugar vs. a High Carbohydrate meal which leads to Insulin spikes and sugar crashes.
I have been evaluating clients diet diary’s for the last 10 years and every time I see someone for the first time, it’s a very similar story, either no breakfast, coffee on its own, or some type of carbohydrate meal.
This is the first goal I set any client; changing to a protein based meal as soon as you can after waking up,; the sooner the better to stabilise blood sugar levels and crate mental clarity for the day.
If you are away from home traveling on business or holiday then where you can, follow the guidelines.
It has been shown that the first 30g of dietary protein goes directly to your immune system. One reason why vegetarians have low immune systems. So if you wait until lunch time to have your tiny piece of chicken with your salad, then for probably 6 or 7 hours your body’s immune system has had nothing to fuel it. Then, the tiny portion of chicken you have can’t even be used to help you with your weight loss goals.
People, who train in the gym and can’t get results, look at your food!! Something isn’t working for you!!
